› services: behaviourist counselling (training)
Training and Behavioral Consultation info for Animal Wellness Website by Dawn Adair Dawn Adair, of For the Love of Dogs, gears positive dog training and behaviour consulting for problem behaviours towards the urban dog owner. Living in the city with your dog entails many additional stresses and expectations. Todays' dog owner is responsible for having a behaved, socialized and well mannered dog in some of the most unrealistic life situations. Whether it is the dog or the owner who appears to be suffering, training and behaviour therapy can be the answer to your pet's problems. The consultation begins with in-depth history taking assessment and evaluation. During this process we will get a clear understanding of the problems at hand, and learn why the dog is exhibiting the behaviours that are a problem for you. It is very important that we address the underlying issues that initiate the problem behaviours, as well as the (often more annoying) outward symptoms. Your consultation will include an educational discussion on the theoretical aspects of dog behaviour relevant to your case. You will learn to create a relationship of trust, leadership, and mutual respect, which will provide a supportive environment in which your dog can flourish. Often, in-home personal training is recommended to rehabilitate dogs with behaviour problems or for those in need of further training. In which case a training plan will be developed for you with your needs in mind, specifically incorporating personal lifestyle goals that complete your vision of what a successful relationship with your dog will be like. One-on-One Personal Training is the fastest and most effective way to train your puppy or adult dog. This service is so successful because it works with people's lifestyle, schedule and the individual personality and temperament of each dog, matching the most appropriate method of training with the individual dog and owner for optimum results. Personal training gives you safety and control through the basic commands (sit, down, stand, stay, come, and heel), allowing you to truly enjoy life with your well-mannered dog. You'll also learn leadership skills that will help you guide and motivate your dog, and to increase their desire to work for you. I only use humane, pain free methods and choose the most positive and motivational conditioning techniques that will be effective for each case. Personal training deals with your training challenges where they are relevant to you (in your home, neighborhood, and park). Developing your training plan will include educating and training the human family, as well as the dog itself. It is important that our clients learn to teach and handle their own dog, so that the dog will behave successfully in all situations, not just in the hands of the trainer Training should begin as soon as you get your dog or puppy, and should be maintained throughout their lifetime. Behaviour problems should be addressed as soon as they are observed. Behaviour Modification is ideal for dogs displaying aggression, behavior problems such as; mouthing/biting, barking, digging, jumping up, destructive chewing, house soiling, running away, separation anxiety, those with fear or trauma based issues and dogs recovering from previous abuse. Problems that have become habitual often require a thorough home environment/relationship overhaul and new consistent conditioning, but unlike the saying you actually can (and should) teach an old dog new tricks!
