Pet Nutrition
by Michael Goldberg, DVM

In veterinary school, we are taught (at least were taught) that about 85% of disease will eventually heal on their own. In light of this enormous figure, we are very busy seeing a large number of patients that don't seem to get well.

I feel that one of the problems with these patients may in fact be there vital force is deplete of the building blocks the body requires for self healing. For the past 10 years, I have been recommending my patients eat a raw food diet. I have found very few complications with this method of feeding. What I have found interestingly enough is the level of health that is achieved in these patients is wonderful. I really feel it is a shame that we are taught in vet school that this is a practice that should not be done when the clinical evidence that I see is just the opposite.

Before I proceed with any homeopathic treatment, I highly recommend changing the diet to a raw food diet and often, a number of the ailments will vanish.

Was this part of the 85% who get better on their own???

I think nutrition plays a vital role in the health of our companions and feeding REAL food is paramount the staying healthy.

Here are the areas I see vast improvements on a daily basis.

  • Teeth and gums are always whiter and less inflamed on raw food.
  • Coat quality and general energy levels are improved. Often skin problems such as superficial pyodermas seem to go away quite quickly.
  • The digestive process also seems to improve as well. Much better quality of stool and literally half the amount!
  • As far as any infections go, the dog and the cat are built to eat meat. I have not had problems with bacterial or parasitic infections that so many clients fear.
  • In this period, I have seen one case of Salmonella and one case of Neosporidium. I still however recommend deep freezing the meat before feeding as thawed.

  • In my experience, this method of feeding has literally made thousands of dogs and cats live a better, healthier life.
